IN Petal, Mississippi, an 11-year-old boy is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty after allegedly beating a dog to death with a large stick.
The dog, Chico, belonged to the Roberts family and was found dead behind their business.
Video footage from a neighbor shows the boy attacking the dog multiple times.
According to Timber Roberts, the dog’s owner, the boy targeted Chico brutally and intentionally.
The boy was arrested and charged, but due to his age, he will not be prosecuted as an adult.
The boy was visiting his grandmother in the area, and she has been charged with neglect for failing to provide adequate supervision.

The incident has led Timber Roberts to advocate for stronger protections under Mississippi’s “Buddy’s Law,” which requires psychiatric evaluations for children who torture or kill domesticated animals.
Roberts expressed concern about the boy’s potential future behavior, stating, “I don’t know what he can do to other animals or in the future do to a human being.”
The boy’s history regarding animal abuse is unclear, and police noted that he is not from the Petal area.
