A tragic accident occurred in Florida when 4-year-old boy, Chosen Morris, accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun found in his parents’ car.

The incident happened on Friday evening as the family prepared to go out for pizza.

According to authorities, Chosen’s father, Robert Morris, was in the bathroom, while his mother, Quinta Morris, was in her bedroom. Quinta Morris heard a “pop” and initially thought her children had broken something.

However, upon searching for Chosen, she found him in the driver’s seat of the car with a gunshot wound to his head.

Chosen’s parents rushed him to the hospital, where he died on Saturday afternoon.

The investigation revealed that Robert Morris owned the gun, a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber, which was found under the driver’s seat.

Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker called the incident a “tragic accident” and emphasized the importance of gun owners securing their firearms.

“As a father and grandfather, I can’t imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Morris are going through right now,” Parker said.

The incident highlights the alarming rate of unintentional shootings by children in the US.

According to Everytown for Gun Safety, hundreds of children unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else each year.

In 2023, Stonix News learnt that there were at least 411 unintentional shootings by children, resulting in 136 fatalities.

This year, there have been at least 21 unintentional shootings, resulting in 11 deaths.
