THE Anambra State Government has ordered the closure of another major market for one week, enforcing the state’s ban on the Monday sit-at-home directive.
The New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market in Nkwo Nnewi has been shut down from midnight on Monday, 23rd February, until Monday, 2nd March, 2026.
This latest sanction comes after traders were found to be in low compliance with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s order to end the weekly shutdown of commercial activities across the state.
The closure was announced by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, following an inspection of the market. He was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor; the Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd); and the Mayor of Nnewi, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.
The market
Chief Uba issued a clear warning to traders and customers to steer clear of the market until next Monday to avoid trouble with law enforcement.
“Traders and customers are advised to avoid the market until next Monday to avoid issues with law enforcement agents,” he stated.
He also warned that the market could face an extended closure if compliance is not significantly improved by the time it reopens.
Reaffirming the government’s position, he added that normal activities have now resumed on Mondays across Anambra State, following the Governor’s directive issued in late January.
