Obviously taking advantage of the six days extension of the deadline for political parties to conclude their primaries, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its presidential primary earlier slated for Sunday May 29 to Friday, June 6 and Saturday, 7, 2021.
Stonix News had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), late Friday, bowed to pressure by political parties to extend the dates for the conclusion of party primaries.
INEC had said that the Inter-Party Advisory Commission (IPAC) had requested a week extension for political parties to conclude the conduct of their presidential conventions and primaries.
IPAC chairman, Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, had urged INEC to adjust its June 3rd deadline for the conduct of primaries.
To this INEC eventually acceded on Friday after a closed door bilateral meeting between INEC and IPAC.
It’s not yet clear if the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which also had an emergency meeting Friday night, will toe the line of the APC.
