B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G: Alaafin Of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi III, Joins Ancestors

Charismatic and culturally flamboyant Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has joined his ancestors at 83.

The longest-serving Oyo monarch’s demise was reportedly confirmed at about 11:00p.m on Friday.

Oba Adeyemi III, whose father was Oba Adeyemi II, died at 83, 52 of which he reigned as Alaafin.

Stonix News gathered that the monarch passed at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he had been for routine medical check-up.

His remains have been moved to Oyo town in the earliest part of Saturday and was received at Idi-Igba by his first son, Prince ‘Tunde, and his other siblings.

The head of the Oyomesi, Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola, is expected to be in charge pending the appointment of a new Alaafin.

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, is expected to be briefed officially Saturday morning by the Basorun.

The departure of Oba Adeyemi makes it three, the number of prominent Oyo kings that have joined their ancestors in the last five months.

Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi passed December 12, 2021 while Olubadan Soliu Adetunji also passed January 2, 2022.
