TENSION has gripped Port Harcourt as Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is yet to resume duties, more than 12 hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency and ended his suspension along with that of his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Crowds of anxious residents and government workers thronged the Rivers State Government House on Wednesday, hoping to catch a glimpse of the governor’s return.

However, security personnel maintained a heavy presence at the entrance, barring staff and supporters from gaining access to the premises.
The suspension of Fubara and Odu was lifted on Wednesday following weeks of uncertainty that rocked the state’s political and administrative machinery.
But the delay in the governor’s official resumption has fuelled speculation and deepened anxiety among citizens.

As the standoff continues, questions linger over the governor’s next move and the stability of governance in Rivers State.
