Rita Enemuru, Reporting
FOLLOWING the collapse of a three-storey building in Aka Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, on Saturday at about 6.15p.m, two children are said to be trapped while three persons have been rescued and rushed to the hospital.
This was as of late night on Saturday amid emergency rescue mission.
The cause of the collapse is being linked to use of substandard building materials.
A witness told Stonix News that two children, who were viewing television while the mother and an elder brother went out to buy food stuff, were trapped under the rubble.
They are, however, said to be picking calls put across to their phones.
It is being alleged that in spite of equipment deployed by the state’s Ministry of Works, the Fire Service and Julius Berger to the scey, not much has been achieved in rescuing the victims trapped under the rubble.
It was gathered that shortly before an excavator arrived, youths of the community decided to break the remains of the building manually with hammers, saws and other handy equipment.
Meanwhile, rescue mission continues as of the time of filing the report.
