FCTA, FCDA Operations Halted As JUAC Strike Takes Effect

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

OPERATIONS at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) ground to a halt on Monday after the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) began an indefinite strike over demands for improved working conditions.

The main gates of the FCTA/FCDA Secretariat were locked by 8:00 a.m., preventing staff and visitors from gaining entry.

The industrial action followed a circular issued by JUAC late on Sunday evening, instructing workers to stay at home. The notice, titled “Directive to Remain at Home,” urged staff to comply with the union, citing “ongoing agitations for better working conditions within the FCTA.” A JUAC task force was deployed to enforce the strike.

The union’s demands centre on unresolved issues pertaining to staff welfare, conditions of service, and the implementation of previously agreed benefits.

Specific grievances include unpaid promotion arrears, stalled promotions, and the extension of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries.

JUAC has also alleged the non-remittance of pension contributions and National Housing Fund deductions.

The strike is anticipated to severely disrupt essential administrative services in the Federal Capital Territory.

At the time of publication, the managements of the FCTA and FCDA had not issued an official response.
