A fleeing bandit from the Imo Correctional Centre has hacked to death no fewer than eight persons in Imo State.
The lone ranger bandit was said to be terrorizing the oil-bearing community of Mmahu Egbema, headquarters of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on Monday night, has thrown the entire community into mourning.
Stonix News gathered that the convict stormed the community from a nearby bush and started shooting, killing eight in hiscwwke.
The President of Egbema Community, Mr Romano, said that the bandit was from the community.
He added that the suspect escaped from the prison and began to terrorize the entire community.
He said that his action made the community to invite the security agents to the community for his re-arrest him with the help of the youths, but he bolted into the woods.
The youth president said that before now, the bandit had killed three persons and escaped into the bush for fear of not being apprehended by security agents.
The Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham, said that the Command was aware of the incident.
While he did not confirm the number of casualties involved, He said that investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings had begun, but gave no number of casualties.
