Flood: Come To Our Rescue, Asaba Residents Appeal To Delta Govt

RESIDENTS of Bonsack/Poultry area in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, have appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the chairman, Mr Obi Ezenyeli, to come to their rescue over the flooded only accessible road to the area.

Mrs. Blessing Olisa, one of the residents of Bonsack/ Poultry area, said that the call had become necessary considering the destructive effects of the flood on the area.

She stated that they often experienced the flood in the area during the peak of the rainy season, especially July through October, each year.

Olisa added that whenever it rains, they usually park their vehicles somewhere and trek to their destinations because of the deplorable state of the road.

Mrs Olisa, who meandered through the deep flooded portion of the road to demonstrate the depth of the flooded road, said that there was a need for the government to construct the road.

She stressed that until that was done, what they were experiencing would continue to be a recurring decimal.

According to her, the most worrisome situation are instances where heartless landlords would pack sand on both sides of their compound along the road to prevent easy flow of water, thereby hampering movements of residents.

Mrs Olisa explained further that one of their neighbours, who did the same recently, attacked and inflicted injury on her husband, Dr Olisa, for simply appealing to him to remove the heap of sand on the road to enable people move freely across the already flooded portion..

She remarked that Governor Oborevwori is a good leader with listening ears who, she believed, would come to their rescue the moment the story comes to his notice.

Another resident of the area, Mr. Ikechukwu Anozie, explained that they had been complaining to previous governments over the years about the condition of the road but nothing was done.

Anozie said that they had no other choice than to appeal to this particular government of Oborevwori to come to their aid.

Injured Engineer Ozonnachi Mishack over the heap of sand blocking the flooded road

Engineer Ozonnachi Mishack, who gave the sad story of how his immediate neighbour sent his boys to beat him up and broke his right knee for daring to remove the sand he used in blocking the road, equally cried out to the government for urgent intervention.

He said that his only offence was approaching his neighbour to remove the sand since it was not only preventing easy movement of persons on the road, but equally serving as easy access to criminals who now scale through his fence to rob him of his belongings with the aid of the heap of sand.

Engineer Ozonnachi added that the OzaUdubom Community, popularly known as Poultry Area, has been very peaceful for its residents before now, apart from the normal flooding that has been giving them harrowing experiences each year.
