Gunmen Storm Voters Registration Centre In Imo, Kill INEC Official

Michael Chukwuebuka, Reporting

Some gunmen, on Thursday, stormed a registration centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Imo State, killing an INEC staff.

The ugly incident, according to the INEC resident electoral commissioner, occurred in Ihitte-Uboma Local Government Area in the early hours of Thursday when the officials went to register and as well distribute PVCs to some electorate whose voters cards were ready.

In a violent video footage circulating in the social media, the gunmen were seen shooting sporadically, warning that they do not want any election in the state.

They also said they have sent several warnings to INEC not to come to their area again for any activity as they were not ready for any election.

As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State police spokesperson was yet to make any official statement on the matter.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Michael Abattam, however said the command was aware of the incident, adding they would soon come up with their position.
