Have You Ever Shunned Food For Failing Exam?

As a young girl, I was full of antics! There are some things I did back then that bring sweet smiles to my face anytime I remember them.

Remember the GCE I wrote? When the results were released, I didn’t tell my parents. I wanted to give them a surprise. I had to go to the GCE centre to check my result; results were not checked online then.

I went from school; I was in SS3. I went in the company of one of my friends.

At the centre, I located the office where I would check the result and I saw one Mummy holding some giant sheets containing the results. My heart skipped! I was scared for a moment, but my confidence returned. I went in, told her my name and other details. And the dictation began- two credits, one distinction and I failed the others. You mean I passed just three subjects? Was that my result? Yeah, it was.

The result was a shock to me. I expected more, I thought I was a brilliant girl now. What would I tell my parents? They believed so much in me.

At home, I put up a sad face. I needed to prepare them for the bad news. Eventually, I told my parents I had checked my result. I made sure my voice was very low, I had to let them know I was not happy with myself too. My dad didn’t talk much but I knew he was disappointed.

It was time for dinner and different thoughts were running in my head. ‘How will I eat when I just failed a major exam? I know people reject food when they fail exams, what should I do? Should I eat? Should I reject the food?’ I was in a dilemma. Eventually, I rejected the food and nobody persuaded me to eat! ‘Ah, I’m in trouble,’ I thought. I slept on empty stomach.

Trust me, I woke up in the night because I was hungry. Why did I reject my dinner? I couldn’t pretend any longer, I had to eat.

I walked stealthily to the sitting room. I peeped, nobody was there. I furthered my journey on tiptoes; the kitchen was my destination but then I glanced at the dining table and saw something. There was a plate on the table but it was covered! I moved closer and checked it. It was my dinner! I was happy, what a relief!

I sat down quietly and devoured the food. I took the plates to the kitchen and went back to sleep. I pretended as if nothing happened!
