A female student of Gombe State University, Nigeria has been arrested for throwing her freshly-born baby from the window of her hostel into the bush.
Reports say the female student found herself in a desperate situation after giving birth to the unwanted child, confused about what to do next.
The baby was later picked up mangled due to the impact of its fall from the three-story hostel building.
Sources said out of despair, she made the gruelling decision to end the infant’s life to perhaps escape struggles associated with tendering a baby.
The Public Relations Officer of Gombe State University, Mohammed Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He acknowledged that the female student had been apprehended by the school’s security personnel and handed over to the police.
Though the identity of the lady is still in wraps, the matter is being further investigated by the law enforcement authorities, he further noted.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, also stated that the police were in the process of gathering more details about the incident.
