A 76-year-old retired Major of the Nigerian Army and former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kabba-Bunu chapter, Pastor Joe Ajayi, has reportedly been abducted from his residence in Odo-Ape, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to local sources, Ajayi was kidnapped around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday by unidentified gunmen who stormed the area, firing indiscriminately for over an hour before forcibly taking him to an unknown location.
The incident has triggered deep concern among residents, particularly due to the victim’s frail health and advanced age—factors which could pose serious risks while in captivity.
His abduction has further heightened fears across the community and renewed calls for urgent and enhanced security measures.
The development comes on the heels of a recent warning issued by the Okun Development Association (ODA) over the worsening security situation in Okunland.
The association had earlier condemned the abduction of a traditional ruler in Okoloke, Yagba West Local Government Area, urging both federal and state governments to act swiftly.
Pastor Ajayi’s kidnapping adds to an alarming pattern of abductions in the region.
Earlier this year, a local council member was taken from his home, followed by the abduction of three adults and a child from a nearby farm—highlighting the persistent and escalating insecurity troubling the area.
