Diary of a Teacher (DoT) with Titilope Ogundele

How I Became A Prefect In SS1 Despite My Naughtiness

When I was in secondary school, I was a naughty student. Yeah, I was. However, despite my being naughty, I was among the students whom my teachers liked. I don’t know how it happened. Well, we weren’t rude to our teachers, sha. Yes, we gave them names. We used to do small small amusere and they caught us on a few occasions but you know, children will always be children. Maybe that’s why those teachers condoned our naughty attitudes and loved us still.

And sincerely, I had wonderful teachers. Many of them were quite kind and friendly to us.

For me and some other naughty children, we were serious about our academics. We didn’t have the best of behaviours, I won’t lie about that, but we weren’t dullards. Our own kind of naughty children were brilliant.

Yes, we gossiped our teachers. In fact, we nicknamed some of them, but we still shone in our academics. The irony of it is that, the school authority still recognised some of us as children worthy in character and learning, abi now.

When we were in SS1, the school was to present a new set of prefects. Ordinarily, the prefects should come from SS2, the set ahead of us; but then, four prefects were chosen from SS1.

I was among the four prefects chosen from SS1. I was astonished; my friends were, too. It was unexpected. I didn’t know the school would rate me among those worthy of such honour.

Anyway, when I said I was a naughty student, immorality wasn’t part of what we indulged in. Nah! We had nothing to do with immorality and sexual escapades.

Dear students, in all you do, ensure you are found worthy in character and learning. That’s the code.

Do not engage in what you would regret later in your life. Do not partake in what will mar your bright future. Do not do what will become a scandal in your future. Do not give bloggers negative juicy stories about you when you eventually become successful later in life.
