IN a heart-stirring encounter that has captivated social media, a Nigerian police officer, simply identified as Officer Yusuf, is being celebrated, nationwide, for his exceptional kindness, generosity, and integrity—qualities that rarely dominate headlines about the Nigeria Police Force.
On Sunday morning, May 25, X user Akin Atanda (@Akinskickers) took to the platform to recount what he described as an “angelic” intervention by the young, burly officer during a moment of personal difficulty.

With no cash at hand and urgently needing to send a mechanic on an errand while preparing his mother for a scheduled flight, Atanda found unexpected help in the most unlikely place.
“Then this huge young guy came out from nowhere,” Atanda wrote. “He handed me ₦20,000 without asking any questions, stayed with us, and even used his own airtime to monitor the mechanic.”
The mechanic delayed in returning, jeopardizing his mother’s travel plans, but Officer Yusuf stepped in again.
According to Atanda, the officer flagged down a familiar face and arranged, at no cost, for the Good Samaritan to transport Atanda’s mother and sister to Lagos.

But Yusuf’s kindness didn’t end there. He handed out cash to a few area boys, paid a young boy who fetched water, and refused any attempts to repay or top up the ₦20,000 he had offered.
As if orchestrated by divine timing, the officer further lent his own car battery to jumpstart Atanda’s vehicle when it stalled, preventing the need for a costly battery rental. “That guy is an angel sent to help us,” Atanda declared. “Big, strong, with a big voice—but a heart of gold.”

THE Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Moved by the testimony, the official Nigeria Police Force X handle (@PoliceNG) responded with warmth:
“Thank you for not keeping this heartwarming encounter to yourself and for giving Officer Yusuf his flowers. He exemplifies the values of compassion, integrity, and service that define our profession.”
The Force also requested further details to enable proper recognition, affirming its commitment to encouraging humane and commendable policing.
Atanda, in his follow-up response, stated: “We need more people like him. In my life, I never believed I would see a policeman young and that nice… I criticize the Police when needed, so I will not stay silent when it’s time to give them their flowers.”
In a nation where public trust in the police has often been strained, Officer Yusuf’s actions serve as a powerful reminder of the humanity that still resides within the uniform.
His story is more than a social media moment—it is a call to reimagine what public service can be, and an inspiration to every Nigerian officer sworn to protect and serve.
