THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the receipt of necessary contact details from petitioners seeking the recall of the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 26th March 2025, and signed by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, INEC stated that the petitioners had submitted a letter addressed to the Commission’s Chairman, providing their contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
Following this, INEC has officially notified the Senator in question about the recall petition, as stipulated in Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024.
A notification letter has been delivered to the Senator’s official address, copied to the presiding officer of the Senate, and published on INEC’s website.
The next step in the process is the verification of the signatories to the petition to confirm that more than half (over 50%) of the registered voters in the constituency have endorsed it.
INEC stated that this scrutiny would take place in the coming days, with the results made public to determine the next course of action.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent and open process.
