A man has been taken into custody after he reportedly opened fire on a METRO bus in the Sharpstown area in southwest Houston on Wednesday morning.

According to ABC13, a bus driver called police at 7:39 a.m. to report a disturbance with a weapon on a METRO bus at the intersection of S. Gesser Road and Bellaire Boulevard.

Investigators said a man in his 80s who was armed with a semi-automatic pistol fired at least one shot while on the bus.

When METRO police officers arrived, he was taken into custody and a pistol was recovered.

Stonix News learnt that no one was hurt.

“There were some passengers on the bus, and because of the fast decision-making process, our bus operator, she was quickly able to open the door to let all the passengers out.

“So, no one was injured as a result of the incident,” METRO PD Chief Ban Tien said.

Tien said the investigation into what exactly led up to the shooting is ongoing.

“There seems to be some sort of language barrier. So we are still going through the process of trying to find out,” Tien said.

The northbound lanes of S. Gessner were blocked as police investigated the scene.
