Navy Redeploys 65 Rear Admirals in Major Shake-Up


THE Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment and redeployment of 65 Rear Admirals of the Nigerian Navy (NN) to various strategic positions across its commands and establishments.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the Director of Information, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who explained that the large-scale postings—approved on Thursday, 30 October 2025—reflect the Navy’s renewed commitment to operational efficiency under the leadership of Vice Admiral Abbas, the 23rd indigenous Chief of the Naval Staff.

According to the statement, some of the key appointments include:

Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi, formerly of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), now Chief of Logistics, Naval Headquarters (NHQ).

Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi, Executive Director, International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION).

Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun, Director of Defence Cooperation, DHQ.

Rear Admiral Anenechukwu Ezenma, Director of Lessons Learned, DHQ.

Rear Admiral Samuel Ngatuwa, Director of Project Management.

Others include Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed as Commandant, National Defence College; Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, Chief of Operations, NHQ; and Rear Admiral Frederick Damtong, Chief of Naval Engineering.

Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna becomes Chief of Training, NHQ, while Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim assumes duties as Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited.

Additional postings see Rear Admiral Sunday Oyegade moving to the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) as Director of Logistics, and Rear Admiral Gideon Kachim appointed Chief of Defence Administration, DHQ.

Also, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman becomes Chief of Administration, NHQ; Rear Admiral Kehinde Odubanjo, Director General, Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB); Rear Admiral John Okeke, Chief of Defence Civil–Military Cooperation, DHQ; and Rear Admiral Olatunde Olodude, Chief of Policy and Plans, NHQ.

The statement further named Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi as Chief of Naval Transformation, and Rear Admiral Peter Zakaria as Executive Director, Administration and Human Resources, Navy Holdings Limited.

Rear Admiral Abiodun Alade now serves as Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Logistics Command, while Rear Admiral Pakiribo Anabraba is appointed Chief of Naval Safety and Standards. Rear Admiral Abdul-Hamid Baba-Inna becomes Navy Secretary, and Rear Admiral Patrick Effah takes over as Chief of Communications and Information Technology.

Other significant appointments include Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha as FOC, Western Naval Command; Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, FOC, Eastern Naval Command; and Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele, FOC, Naval Training Command.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye has been appointed Commandant, Naval War College Nigeria, with Rear Admirals Yusuf Idris, Sunday Yahaya, and Kabiru Tanimu assigned to key directorates at DHQ.

Vice Admiral Abbas congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged them to rededicate themselves to service, professionalism, and integrity.

He noted that the redeployment aims to consolidate recent gains and strengthen the Navy’s capacity to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime domain.
