NETIZENS have reacted to the cash gifts to fruit sellers by the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Friday while on his way from the airport.
Pastor Eno’s viral video showed him handing out undisclosed amount of money in an envelope to some road traders.
Together with the video, he made a post that the act is to support local farmers and create moments of positivity in the community.
According to him, he made the stop on his way from the Airport to spread the ‘happy hour’ to the sellers.
“While coming back from the airport, I made a spontaneous stop to buy corn and spread “happy hour” cheers for the sellers. It’s important to support our local farmers and create moments of positivity in our community.
“Together, let’s embrace the joy of simple gestures that make a difference in people’s lives, he posted.
Reacting to the post, some Twitter users criticized that instead of handing out small amount of money that will finish in a couple of days to traders, he should do something of economic value.
One @Owolabitaiwo commented, “While your intention might be good, the actions here might be wrong.
“It’s proper to establish a small-scale trust fund where people across the state like the corn sellers etc you have been giving money can get these funds under the guise of state business.”
Another user, @Odoro Joe reacted, “I thought the best form of empowerment is by providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and settling up industries ( at least one) in each of the LGA instead of these weekly hand out of cash to random maket women.”
One @Mayor1Use also reacted thus, “Don’t start what you cannot finish. Akwa Ibom has the best road network kudos to Akpabio and others, work on Human Development. Do something that has economic value abeg.
@n6oflife6 opined that Tradermoni’s Failure should Have proven to the governor already that handing out financial stipends to market women does Little for their Lives or the Economy.
He commented, “If this governance thing dey hard for you, pls Just pick two things and focus on to Perfection, like Education and Health; simple.”
