THE Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, reportedly following a romantic dispute.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Mr Abdurahman Balogun, the Commission disclosed that the deceased was allegedly beaten to death by two fellow Nigerians identified as Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze.
NiDCOM described the incident as senseless and heartbreaking, extending its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
The Commission noted that no family should be made to endure such a painful loss.
The Commission called on the relevant Indian authorities to carry out a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation into the incident to ensure that justice is served.
NiDCOM also urged Nigerians living abroad to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times.
According to the statement, Nigerians in the diaspora are ambassadors of the country, and their actions overseas have a direct impact on Nigeria’s image.
“As Nigerians abroad, we must choose unity, respect, and lawfulness in every situation,” the statement read.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasised that violence has no place within the Nigerian community, adding that a stronger and more positive diaspora can only be built through mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
