Obi Slams Judiciary Over ‘Reckless’ Court Rulings

FORMER Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has criticised the Nigerian judiciary, describing it as “disgusting and uninspiring” due to what he calls reckless court rulings that could destabilise governance and deprive citizens of essential services.

In a statement on his X handle on Sunday, Mr Obi condemned all three arms of government—the executive, legislature, and judiciary—for their actions.

“What is coming out of the three arms of government, the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary is disgusting and uninspiring,” he stated.

Mr Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, highlighted recent controversies, including what he termed the executive’s abuse of power in Osun State, a reckless judicial pronouncement on Rivers State that threatens democracy, and a scandal within the National Assembly.

According to him, leaders in these branches must refrain from undue interference in sub-national governance and take urgent steps to stabilise the country.

He also warned against politicians defecting to parties where they believe they can manipulate the system to secure power.

This is not the first time Mr Obi has criticised the judiciary.

In 2024, he accused it of commodifying justice and favouring the highest bidders.
