Micheal Chukwuebuka, Reporting

A pilot from another airline was forced to help land a Southwest Airlines flight on Wednesday after its captain fell seriously ill and required medical attention.

According to a spokesperson for the airline, Southwest Flight 6013 was bound for Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday when one of its pilot became incapacitated and had to be treated by medical experts.

The plane took off from Las Vegas, heading to Columbus, but had to turn back after its captain could no longer fly the plane, the country’s airline and radio traffic data revealed.

With the help of the other pilot the plane was able to land safely and an alternate crew took over, operating the flight to Columbus.

“We commend the crew for their professionalism and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding regarding the situation,” the airline spokesperson said.

As of Thursday afternoon, the condition of the pilot who required medical attention was not immediately clear.
