Police Arrest Seven Arms Dealers As IGP Harps On Technology-Driven Policing

Following the IGP’s recent charge to men of the Nigerian Police to be gallant in fighting crimes, Operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT), have arrested four notorious arm dealers in Plateau and Taraba states.

A press release signed by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, said the arrest of four of the robbers and recovery of 57 AK47 rifles and a large catchment of ammunition took place in Jos, Plateau State.

The suspects included Hamza Zakari (aka Hamzo) aged 20yrs, Abubakar Muhammed (aka Fancy) aged 22yrs, Umar Ibrahim aged 25yrs and Muhammed Abdulkarim (aka Dan-Asabe) aged 37yrs.

According to CSP Adejobi, the suspects identified as one of the major links for the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals terrorizing the state and some other parts of the country have confessed to their crimes.

In a similar development, FIB-IRT acting on a tip-off have rounded up three suspected gun runners in Ibi LGA of namely in Taraba State namely; Bello Sani, Venab Puncat and Yusuf Nahoda.

All three suspect have said to have confessed to the purchase of one AK47 rifle, and one SMG rifle at the cost of Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (#900,000).

While collaborative effort has been made to arrest their collaborators and recover the exhibits, Adejobi said the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.

Calling on the continuous support for the police, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman commended the successes recorded by the FIB-IRT and reassured members of the public of his administration’s commitment to the fight against common enemies of the nation.
