A deadly stampede at a New Delhi railway station in India reportedly claimed the lives of at least 18 people, leaving many more injured.

The tragedy occurred late Saturday as thousands gathered to board trains to the Maha Khab Hindu festival in northern India.

According to Delhi’s caretaker chief minister, Atishi, the victims’ bodies were taken to a local hospital.

Passengers forcing their way into the train
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his distress over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the stampede, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab ordering a probe.
This incident comes after a similar stampede at the Maha Khab festival last month, which resulted in the loss of at least 30 lives.
