BASSIROU Diomaye Faye, 44, has been sworn in as the fifth President of Senegal, becoming Africa’s youngest elected leader.
Several African leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, were in attendance at the Diamniadio Exhibition Centre in Dakar, where the swearing-in ceremony took place today Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.
The ceremony was regarded as a historic occasion, representing Senegal’s peaceful handover of power.
Stonix News reported that Faye, despite being released from prison 10 days before the presidential election and campaigning for a short period of time, won the vote with 54.3 percentage, ahead of President Macky Sall’s candidate Amadou Ba.
The 44-year-old, before hundreds of officials and several African leaders, swore to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal:
“Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal.”
