PARENTS Teachers Association of Nigeria (PTAN) has distanced itself from the news trending on the social media that each parent will contribute N10, 000 each to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in order to end the six months strike.
The National President of the body, Alhaji Danjuma Haruna, in a statement made available to Stonix News in Kaduna on Friday, said that PTAN had never resolved to contribute money to ASUU.
Haruna warned those peddling such unfounded resolution to desist and stop using its name to cause confusion in the country.
“We want to distance ourselves as we have never met to discuss that. So Nigerians should disregard the news.
“We are not involved in any statements related to contributing money to ASUU for them to call off the on -going strike, he stressed.
“Our stand since from the inception of the strike is for both ASUU and the Federal Government to come to an agreement. But not to contribute money to ASUU,” he stated.
Besides, the statement noted that, “PTAN is still insisting on negotiation between ASUU and government so that the on going strike that is affecting the quality of education in the country will end.
The body advised both warrying parties to come to an amicable agreement saying the strike has affected millions of students and university lecturers in many ways.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to rescue all remaining kidnapped secondary school students across the country who are still in bandits’ den.
Haruna specifically decried the current situation of abducted Yawuri female students who are still in captivity for over 400 days.
