Terrorists Invade Borno Mosque, Kill Chief Imam, 3 Others

TERRORISTS believed to be Boko Haram marauders have attacked a mosque in Borno State, killing the Chief Imam and three other worshippers.

It was learnt that the terrorists also abducted some congregants.

The incident occurred on Friday during Fajr prayers in the Ngulde community. The community is in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of the state.

According to Daily Post, the terrorists who were said to be about 20 in number, stormed the mosque and opened fire on congregants.

Three of the congregants were instantly killed at the scene and another person was injured but later died in a hospital.

The terrorists also reportedly stole livestock and foodstuffs before burning two vehicles belonging to members of the community.

The Councillor representing Ngulde Ward, Bilyaminu, confirmed the event in a statement on Sunday, saying the incident “claimed four (4) lives and left many with casualties, while properties and businesses worth millions of naira were also destroyed and carted away by the insurgents”.

Similarly, Abdullahi Askira, the Deputy Speaker of Borno State, confirmed the incident.

Askira said the terrorists broke into the neighbourhood and inquired about the whereabouts of the chairman of the local hunters/vigilantes, who was said to be their primary target.

He said when the terrorists were dissatisfied with the reaction they got, they went straight to the mosque and shot at congregants.
