Tinubu Swears in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Rivers State Sole Administrator

PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the new Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja, in the presence of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, among other dignitaries.

This follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday night, aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis.

As part of the emergency measures, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

In light of this, Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas has been appointed as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs until stability is restored.

Ibas previously served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
