The collapse happened during a torrential downpour accompanied by a fierce windstorm.

Students and their invigilators were trapped beneath the debris for hours before being rescued by local residents.

According to Alhaji DanAzumi Lauris, a community member, it was the second batch of students affected by the collapse, as the first group had already completed their examinations and left the premises.

He said the incident took place around 6pm on Wednesday.

DanAzumi confirmed that injured students, teachers, and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving as invigilators were taken to a Primary Healthcare Centre just a few metres from the school, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

He added that the windstorm not only devastated the school but also damaged numerous houses in the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, reports from Jalingo, the state capital, indicated that many students were stranded after their examinations due to continuous rainfall.

Several did not return home until after 1:00am, as the downpour, which began during the exams, rendered travel impossible for hours.
