Two Enugu Sisters Behind Bars In Foiled Shocking Kidnap Of Relative

THE Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major victory in its ongoing fight against violent crime, with high-impact operations across Enugu and Ogun states leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims, the neutralisation of three suspects, and the recovery of over ₦1 million in ransom money.

Among the most shocking revelations was the arrest of two Enugu sisters—Juliet Chukwu (39) and Nancy Chukwu (40)—on 15 July in Enugu, for conspiring to kidnap their own relative.

The pair were caught red-handed while dividing a ₦10 million ransom collected from their male kinsman, who was later rescued unharmed.

Police also recovered their operational vehicle and the full ransom sum.

THE Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, disclosed the developments via a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, 20 July.

Dr Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s determination to dismantle criminal networks through enhanced intelligence gathering and technology-led policing.

In a separate incident in Enugu on 16 July, police operatives—acting on a tip-off from residents of Okpuje-Ani community in Nsukka LGA—engaged a group of armed kidnappers in a forest shootout.

One suspect was neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. An AK-47 rifle loaded with live rounds was recovered from the scene.

That same day, 23-year-old Aliyu Adamu was arrested on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

He confessed to being part of multiple kidnapping gangs and said he had been invited from Awka, Anambra State to join criminal operations in Enugu.

Meanwhile, in Ogun State, police launched a high-risk rescue operation in the early hours of 20 July after three people were abducted near Ajebo, under the Owode Egba Division.

Acting swiftly, operatives tracked the gang to a hideout along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

A gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of two suspects and the safe rescue of all three hostages.

Recovered items from the Ogun operation included an AK-47 rifle, 139 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, a cutlass, chains and padlocks, mobile phones used for negotiation, and ₦1.23 million, suspected to be part of the ransom.

Commending the bravery and professionalism of his officers, the IGP said, “Our renewed approach to policing—driven by actionable intelligence and advanced technology—is yielding tangible results.

“We will not relent until every criminal network in this country is dismantled.”

He urged the public to remain vigilant and to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the collective fight against crime.
