AUTHORITIES are investigating a mass shooting that left two people dead and several others injured in Indianapolis during the early hours of Saturday.
According to reports, police were initially responding to a separate incident nearby when they were alerted to another disturbance. As officers approached the second location, they reportedly heard gunshots.
One individual was found dead at the scene.
Six others were transported to a hospital, where one of them later succumbed to their injuries.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the victims included both adults and juveniles.
Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene, and several individuals were taken into custody for questioning.
In response to the tragedy, the city’s police chief announced increased security efforts.
These include a stronger police presence downtown, with Indiana State Troopers expected to remain in the area throughout the summer.
