Abuja, 5 April 2025 — The Nigeria Police Force has, formally, invited His Royal Highness, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to appear before its Force Intelligence Department in connection with an incident said to have occurred during the recent Sallah festivities in Kano.
In a letter dated 4 April 2025 and signed by Commissioner of Police (Operations), Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, the Emir was directed to report to the Force Intelligence Department, located opposite the Police Force Headquarters in Area 11, Abuja.

According to the letter, the invitation was made under the directive of the Inspector General of Police and channelled through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Intelligence.
“I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain,” the letter read in part.
The controversial Emir is expected to appear at the department by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 8 April 2025.
The nature of the incident in question has not been disclosed, but police sources indicate that the meeting is intended to clarify matters as part of an ongoing investigation.
“Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation,” the letter added, underscoring the importance of the Emir’s cooperation.
The development has stirred public curiosity, particularly among residents of Kano, where Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor, remains a revered traditional and moral authority. Neither the Emir’s palace nor the Kano State Government has released an official statement in response to the invitation.
