We Want To Inject Discipline, Eguavoen, Super Eagles Interim Coach Says

Caretaker coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, has mooted the calling up of five fresh hands, just as he says there’s need to inject discipline in the team.

He said the new players would be invited for the AFCON, which commences January 9, 2021.

Eguavoen, who is a last-minute replacement for Gernot Rohr, said he did not intend to make wholesale changes to the Eagles squad ahead of the delayed AFCON in Cameroon in January.

“Ninety per cent of the players in the team have been together; we’ll stick with the team that has been together, but we will bring in a few (players), maybe five,” Eguavoen mooted on Brila FM Radio.

“Only a few new faces will get called up.

“Our players aren’t as bad as some of the results might have appeared.”

Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf and former Flying Eagles captain, Kelechi Nwakali are likely going to be among the fresh call-ups.

It was gathered that top officials had complained that discipline in the team broke down under coach sacked Gernet Rohr.

“I hate to say it was a problem, but we want to inject discipline. Something went wrong and we have to fix that,” Eguavoen promised.

The three-time African champions begin their 2021 AFCON campaign on January 11 in Garoua against seven-time champions, Egypt.
