WITH insurgency, terrorism, herdsmen menace, bandits attacks, hunger, and the like still bedeviling the land, Nigeria does not need fresh or more wars.
This was the stance and prayer of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) late Friday during the Holy Ghost Service of the ongoing 71st Annual Convention at Redemption City, Ogun State, Nigeria.
He said despite the reduction in banduts’ activities especially on the Abuja – Kaduna road, the country wasn’t yet out of the woods.
According to him, although not bandied around in the media, God has honoured the prayers of the 27,000 prayer partners who joined him to intercede for Nigeria when the insecuity in the country became unbearable.
He urged the prayer partners and all other Christian intercessors not to be discouraged or distracted by a remark from some quarters that they don’t recognize the power of the prayers.
“I will be calling on you to pray in a moment on something that I consider very serious. Some of you will remember there was a time when you could not go to Kaduna State by road, you cannot go by rail and you cannot go by air because you are likely to be attacked on the way.
“So, I asked for volunteers to join me to fast and pray, I asked for a thousand volunteers and I got 27,000. We fasted, we prayed and God took control.
“Now we are not out of the woods yet but at least things have changed. We didn’t announce it because we were not praying to be appreciated, we were praying because it is our duty to pray.
“Now, I understand that some of us are becoming reluctant to pray because somebody made a comment that they don’t recognize the power of our prayers. I just want to encourage you.
“1. God is still answering prayers.
2. Don’t be discouraged, tomorrow will still be alright.
3. Don’t be distracted, Nigeria still needs a lot of prayers.
“I am a small boy but I was at the battlefront during the Civil War, not as a soldier but I lived near the battlefront. What I saw, if anybody asks me to choose between war and peace, I will choose peace. What about you?
“We are already fighting many wars in Nigeria, we are fighting wars against Kidnappers, we are fighting wars against terrorists, there are still places in Nigeria today where when people go to bed they are not sure they will not be killed before tomorrow morning.
“We are still fighting wars against some people who feel that if you are a farmer and you plant, what you have planted is food for their cows. If their cows come in to eat your harvest and you complain, they kill you.
“We are still fighting war against hunger and so on and so forth. We are fighting some serious wars. Surely we don’t want more wars. We want to win the ones we are fighting and we don’t want fresh ones whether within or without our borders.
“So, those of you who believe in peace in every section, I want you to cry to God for Nigeria. Pray for Nigeria. Lift your voice to the Most High God and say Father, have mercy on Nigeria. Give us peace. Give us all round peace.
“Peace within, peace without, peace in every area of our lives. Please have mercy oh Lord. So, shall it be in Jesus Name,” he prayed.
