NIGERIA’S Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday night, just hours after the Supreme Court delivered a significant blow to his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The court ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) must halt all fund disbursements to the Rivers State government until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place.
Additionally, Speaker Martin Amaewhule and all elected lawmakers were directed to resume legislative activities immediately.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, the five-member panel dismissed Fubara’s cross-appeal, which questioned the legitimacy of the House of Assembly under Amaewhule’s leadership.
The court also prohibited the Accountant General of the Federation and other government agencies from releasing funds to the state until past rulings were upheld.
Following the ruling, Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, posted a video on X showing Wike’s arrival at the Port Harcourt airport, where a crowd of supporters welcomed him.
