A fatal incident occurred at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, on Sunday evening. A woman suffered severe injuries to her upper body while swimming at the south-east end of the island.
Emergency services from the Queensland Ambulance Service responded to the scene shortly before 5pm. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries.
This incident marks the third shark attack in Queensland within the past three months. Previous incidents include a fatal attack near Humpy Island in December and another non-fatal attack off Curtis Island.
Drumlines, equipped with bait and large hooks, are employed at Woorim Beach as a shark control measure. An investigation into the incident is likely to follow.
