NORTH Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin joined China’s Xi Jinping at a grand military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, concluding a week of high-profile diplomatic displays by the Chinese leader and his allies in opposition to the West.

In an unprecedented spectacle, Xi walked alongside Putin and Kim down a red carpet at Tiananmen Square, warmly shaking their hands and exchanging pleasantries. Putin stood to Xi’s right while Kim flanked him on the left.

The parade, staged to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, served as an opportunity for Xi to showcase China’s military strength while uniting sympathetic world leaders in a pointed message to the international community.
Opening the event, President Xi declared that the world still faced a “choice between peace and war”, but insisted that China was “unstoppable”.

Among the formidable weaponry on display was China’s new DF-5C intercontinental ballistic missile, boasting a range of 20,000 kilometres, which featured prominently in the arsenal paraded before the crowd.
