NO fewer than 16 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have died, while two others sustained severe injuries, in a tragic road accident en route to the Gombe Orientation Camp.
The deceased were reported to be graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, and were part of the 2025 Batch C corps members posted to Gombe State.
Specific details surrounding the incident are yet to be fully established.
According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred when the vehicle conveying the graduates allegedly veered off the road.
Emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene, and the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
In a statement, the NYSC office in Gombe State expressed profound condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that comprehensive support would be provided to those affected.
Authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, the NYSC management has urged all corps members to exercise extreme caution during travel to avoid similar tragedies.
