The governor in a statement on his official X handle, expressed the dedication of his administration in improving the welfare of workers in the state.

According to him, there is an undeniable link between an inspired workforce and the bold economic targets set for the state.

He reiterated that the increase was in the belief that labour is an important fuel for economic prosperity, adding that well paid workers are the key to economic growth and creation of wealth in the state.

He charged the workers to requite the gesture by being productive and efficient, putting in their best.

“It bears restating that the minimum wage of N80,000, approved by our administration for both state and local government workers, reflects our commitment to leaving behind lasting legacies of improved living conditions.

“Our dedication to workers’ welfare is driven by a firm belief that a motivated workforce is essential for driving economic progress.

“There’s an undeniable link between an inspired workforce and the bold economic targets we have set for our beloved state.

“That is why we are committed to ensuring our workforce remains highly motivated, laying the groundwork for reducing poverty and achieving unprecedented economic growth in Enugu.

“For us, the best way to recognise that labour creates wealth is by ensuring that those who generate this wealth – the workforce – are well rewarded,” the governor noted in the post.

The organised labour in the state expressed their gratitude to the governor for listening to the cries of the people and increasing the minimum wage above the approved national minimum wage.

They also thanked him for his continuous payment of N25,000 wage to workers for over 10 months while waiting for the harmonisation of the new minimum wage.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in the state, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, said that the gesture has gone further to prove that the governor was the most worker-friendly person to ever rule the state.

Stonix News reports that the number of states awarding minimum wage above the Federal Government’s benchmark of N70,000 is rising by the day.
