A viral WhatsApp video has led to the arrest of two suspected members of a cult group in Aviara community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The arrest followed a report made by a vigilant resident who stumbled on the video showing suspected Eiye cult activity posted on a WhatsApp group named “Real Men.”
Police sources confirmed that the report, made to the Oleh Division on 25 October 2025, prompted immediate action by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Keme Osuluku.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Police Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe and made available to Stonix News on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
According to the statement, operatives launched a discreet investigation that led to the arrest of one Donatus Odovo, 29, on 26 October 2025.
During interrogation, Odovo was found to have links with another suspect, identified as Zachariah Okeh, 36, who police described as a cult leader in the community.
A search warrant executed at Okeh’s residence resulted in the recovery of one locally made double-barrelled gun, one locally made single-barrelled gun, and six live cartridges.
SP Edafe explained that the recovered weapons were immediately secured as exhibits while both suspects were detained for further questioning.
The Police Public Relations Officer said investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the group and to determine the extent of their involvement in cult-related violence.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, as commending the swift response of the Oleh Division and the community member whose alert led to the arrests.
“The Command will continue to encourage public vigilance,” the Commissioner said, “because security is a shared responsibility between the police and the people,” he assured the public.
