Commercial Banks Deserted In Warri

Aghogho Dibirere reporting,

Virtually all commercial banks in Warri and environs were, on Thursday, deserted due to Wednesday’s bloody attacks on some banks during protest over scarcity of new Naira notes at Udu, Udu Local Government Area in Delta State.

Checks by Stonix News on Thursday showed that some banks along Warri/Sapele Road and Main Market in Warri, were shut down.

Some of the banks included branches of Union-Bank, FirstBank, Unity Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Sterling Bank, Wema bank and Eco Bank.

Our reporter observed that all ATM machine in the mentioned banks were not dispensing cash, except for those who came to do transfer as of on Thursday morning February 16, 2023.

Even some security men working in some of the banks were seen in mufty, probably to disguise against mob attacks.

As a result, many customers, who would have gone to the banks for withdrawals, had to make do with PoS agents at exorbitant costs.

Meanwhile, our reporter noticed that security has been beefed up in major streets of Warri as police and naval operatives were seen on a joint patrol of major roads as of the time of filling the report.
