THE Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, convened a high-level strategic conference with officers at the Police Officers’ Mess, Headquarters, Asaba, setting a firm agenda for professionalism, discipline and intelligence-driven policing.
The meeting, held in line with the recent directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, emphasised zero tolerance for extortion, unlawful detention, and indiscriminate searching of citizens’ mobile phones.
In his address, CP Abaniwonda cautioned Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), tactical commanders and other operatives, warning that any officer caught extorting money or engaging in illegal phone searches would face decisive disciplinary measures.
“Extortion of any form will not be tolerated under my leadership,” he declared, stressing that police personnel must focus on intelligence-led patrols, disciplined highway enforcement, and full respect for human rights.
He further directed senior officers to reinforce pre-deployment briefings and post-deployment debriefs, while mandating firm but civil enforcement on highways.
Units were also tasked to intensify intelligence gathering around black spots, kidnap and robbery corridors, and to sustain synergy with other security agencies as well as community stakeholders.
Reassuring residents, CP Abaniwonda promised that Delta State’s security architecture would be strengthened during the “ember months” and festive season. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police via the nearest station or the Command’s dedicated distress line: 08036684974.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, confirmed the CP’s directives, reiterating that accountability and professionalism remain central to policing in Delta State.
