IBADAN – A high-stakes security operation, codenamed ‘Operation Shut Down’, has been quietly activated across Oyo State, according to multiple sources within the Nigerian Police Force.
The operation is scheduled to run from 6:00p.m today until 6:00a.m tomorrow, with insiders warning of mass arrests and a zero-tolerance approach to minor infractions.
Sources speaking to Stonix News on condition of anonymity revealed that the operation remains classified, with no official public statement issued by police authorities.
Officers have already been deployed to strategic locations, including the Sango area, where arrests are reportedly underway.
The crackdown has already taken a deadly turn. In the Kaara area, a motorcycle rider was allegedly killed on the spot after failing to stop when ordered by police.
Witness accounts suggest overzealous officers pursued the rider, leading to a collision that proved fatal. Police authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, police are said to be in hot chase of some youths at Agbowo Express area of Ibadan. They are also said to be in large numbers at Sango area of Ibadan.
Residents and commuters across Oyo State are being urged to return home well before 6:00p.m to avoid being caught in the dragnet.
A source close to the operation warned: “There is likely to be unwarranted arrests for the lightest allegation. Even minor infractions are being treated harshly.”
The motive behind the operation remains unclear, though speculation is mounting. One source, who confirmed the details independently, expressed concern: “I wonder why it is not on the news. It could be an emergency operation, but I hope this is not about any planned political violence — that would be the worst-case scenario.”
As of press time, the Oyo State Police Command had not issued any press release or public advisory regarding the operation.
