Senior Female Police Chief Urges Women To Join The Force

A senior female police commander in Oyo State has publicly urged more women to apply for police jobs, assuring them they can achieve high ranks without discrimination.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu has directed more recruitment of security personnel following the declaration of state of emergency to mitigate the growing insecurity and terrorism across the country.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ruth Otolorin, the Area Commander for Eruwa, made the appeal during a community outreach in Ibadan on Saturday, which marked the 70th anniversary of women in policing.

“I appeal to the female gender to apply for a police job, as they can rise to any rank in the profession without discrimination,” Otolorin stated.

To underscore the point, she revealed that approximately 10 women currently hold the position of Area Commander within the Oyo State Police Command.

Alongside the recruitment drive, ACP Otolorin used the event to issue a firm assurance on gender-based violence, stating that perpetrators of crimes against women and children would not go unpunished.

Leading a team of women officers to the Eleyele market, she also called on the public to help secure society by reporting offenders.

The Area Commander further emphasised the need for improved community relations, asking Nigerians to have an “attitudinal change about the police for them to serve better.”

The outreach highlights the command’s dual focus on enhancing female representation within its ranks while simultaneously combating violence against women and children in the community.
