Supreme Court Verdict Settles PDP Crisis, Says Delta Wing

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the public to ignore any talk of a leadership vacuum in the party, insisting that the Supreme Court’s judgment of 30th April 2026 has finally laid to rest the long-running factional crisis.

In a statement issued on Friday May 1, the party’s publicity secretary, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, explained that the apex court’s verdict only nullified the controversial Ibadan convention, which had produced the Aminu Turaki-led faction.

He stressed that with that decision, there are no longer two warring factions within the PDP.

Mr Oturubo clarified that Senator Sam Anyanwu and three others had been suspended for one month by the party’s 608th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on 1st November 2025.

That suspension, he said, was not contested or extended and lapsed on 1st December 2025.

The following week, on 8th December 2025, Senator Anyanwu and others were appointed into the Caretaker National Working Committee.

That caretaker committee, he added, went on to organise the March 2026 convention, which produced the current leadership under Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since recognised this leadership, which is reflected on its portal.

“Those parading themselves as the Board of Trustees of the party are not known to us,” Mr Oturubo said. “We have a properly and legally constituted National Executive Committee, including the BoT led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and the NWC led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed.”

The PDP Delta chapter appealed to aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and return to the fold, adding that the party would field candidates in all seats during the 2027 general elections and win with the support of Deltans.

“Our party has survived the challenges and we are now in the 2027 race,” the statement read.
