PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians living abroad to return home and contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), Tinubu emphasized that the skills, expertise, and resources of Nigerians in the diaspora are crucial to the nation’s progress.
“I am happy to listen to you. I’m happy to report that many of our people are returning home,” he said. “Yes, for economic reasons, some people might decide to stay away; it’s a fundamental right of the individual. But for the economic growth and opportunities available in Nigeria, don’t stay away. Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?”
The president highlighted his administration’s progress in key areas, including passport issuance, investment reforms, healthcare infrastructure, and business competitiveness.
He stressed that national development cannot be left to the government alone, urging both citizens at home and those abroad to play active roles.
“National development requires a shared sense of responsibility,” Tinubu said. “If we don’t join hands and work together, then we’ve lost the hope of being the leaders we are supposed to be.”
