ACE Nigerian investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, has raised alarm over the detention of investigative reporter, Sodeeq Atanda, allegedly orchestrated by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, with the backing of Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Soyombo alleged that Professor Fasina abused his relationship with the state police boss to instigate Atanda’s arrest in Ado-Ekiti.
According to him, the journalist’s only offence was reporting on the vice chancellor’s alleged repeated attempts to force himself on a married female staff of the institution.
Soyombo further warned that should any harm come to Atanda while in custody, both Professor Fasina and CP Eribo would be held responsible.
The development has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding the immediate release of the detained journalist and calling for accountability in FUOYE and the police command.
