Troops Intercept Major Drug Courier, Seize 108kg of Cannabis in Kogi

TROOPS of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier and seized a large consignment of cannabis in Kogi State, as part of ongoing operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and restricting the movement of illicit substances linked to banditry and violent crime.

This was disclosed in a statement by Hassan Abdullahi, Lieutenant
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, on Monday.

He said the interception occurred on 24 November 2025, when soldiers deployed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158 AU.

The vehicle, driven by one Mr Johnson Ayo, was found with a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, immediately raising suspicion.

A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilogrammes, concealed within the car.

According to preliminary findings, drug consignments of this scale are often used to finance criminal networks and fuel activities that contribute to rising banditry across Kogi and neighbouring states.

The suspect and the seized items have been transferred to the Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and appropriate action.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to national efforts to combat drug trafficking, tackle the drivers of insecurity, and enhance public safety across the country.
