UVWIES in Diaspora (UD) has lauded HRM Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso Abe 1, for his legal battle against land trespassers and grabbers resulting in the recent pronouncement by the Effurun High Court which declared null and void the illegal acquisition of a portion of Uvwie land in Ohore by the Nigerian Army.
In a statement, the group’s coordinator, Chief Ogheneovo Tyson Amurun, a security expert and University lecturer based in the UK, commended the monarch for his tireless efforts in reclaiming all Uvwie lands from speculators and grabbers who have, by their actions, brought untold hardship to the original owners of the land.
The group averred that it was inhumane and wicked for the army to allow a few selfish officers to convert public and community land to their personal estates and selling community land solely for their benefit.
They called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate about N405 million allegedly paid by employees an oil multinational to some former senior army officers to enable them acquire a large portion of Uvwie land and the illegal collection of ground rent by some middlemen for some army officers.
The group also called on the EFCC to invite some retired army officers behind the land sale scandal in Uvwie, illegally trespassed by the Nigerian Army.
It thanked the Delta State governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, for supporting Uvwie in recovery of the Ohore land and saluted the Uvwie people for their patience in following the judiciary process for about 10 years without resorting to unwholesome actions.
“We also want to use this opportunity to congratulate our highly esteemed monarch, HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, on the occasion of the 16th anniversary on the throne of his ancestors,” the group enthused.
